RS232 to Ethernet Adapters
| |
RS-232 to Ethernet Adapters really are not simple
"adapters" at all. They are sophisticated devices which allow you to
place serial ports anywhere your network can reach, while still
appearing as local RS232 ports to your computer and applications. This
extends the distance you can operate your DNC system and reduces the
amount of cable you will need to buy and run. For more flexibility, you
can use more than one device to increase the number of ports and get the
serial ports closer to your CNC's. Whether you place a one-port unit at
each CNC, a 2, 4, or 8 port unit in each cell of CNC's, or use a
combination of units simply to reduce your cable lengths - these devices
can handle your data needs while providing you the flexible topology you desire. |

Quatech ThinQ |
|
|
| |

Quatech ThinQ devices are RYM's latest and easiest
to install Ethernet to serial adapters yet. They ship with a CD-ROM
containing a "wizard" which will search your network and help you
configure basic settings pertaining to the setup of your network.
Further setup can be performed using a web browser in a simple
menu-driven control page. RYM worked with Quatech during the development
and testing of the ThinQ to ensure that its performance meets the needs
of our software. Other advanced features include SNMP remote management
and monitoring capability, 10/100 Ethernet support, and a five year
manufacturer's warranty - the best of our Ethernet products. The ThinQ
is compatible with Windows NT 4.0, 2000 and XP. Users needing earlier operating
system support may wish to consider the Comtrol Serial Hub Si and
DeviceMaster Primo. Available in 1, 2, 4, and 8 port versions - and
multiple ThinQ devices may be hooked up to a single DNC server. Also
available with surge suppression or in RS-422 models.
Quatech ThinQ units are best suited for
customers who:
- Have installations where it is ideal to run
cables to a location other than the DNC server
- Need to extend the reach of their DNC network
- Want to place a serial port closer to (or even
directly inside) their CNC's
- Have no PCI slots available, but need a
high-performance option for 8 or more CNC's
- Have multiple clusters of CNC cables that they
want to be controlled by one system (i.e. combining the machines
connected to three different switchboxes around the shop to operate on
one DNC server)
